Customers ask us this at nearly every wax job: should I get carnauba or sealant? They are different products with different strengths. Here is the straight comparison we give at the driveway.
Carnauba wax is made from the leaves of a Brazilian palm, blended into a paste or liquid. It sits on top of the clear coat and gives that deep, warm, wet glow people picture when they say show-car shine. Synthetic sealant is lab-made polymer that bonds to the paint surface. It looks glassier and more reflective than warm, and it hangs on far longer.
On a daily driver in the Lower Mainland, carnauba typically beads water for six to ten weeks. Sealant typically lasts three to six months. Garage parking stretches both. Automatic brush tunnels and harsh detergents kill both fast, which is why a maintenance wash routine matters more than the product choice.
Pick carnauba if you love the warm glow, garage the car, and wash it yourself every couple of weeks. Pick sealant if the car lives outside, you drive through winter brine, or you want protection you can forget about for months. Many of our regulars run sealant through fall and winter, then switch to carnauba for summer show season.
